Beltronics STi Driver Review
Beltronics was the first to design a radar detector that cannot be detected by any police RDD (radar-detector-detector). The STi Driver detects radar at great distance away, and this is the detector designed for Canadian drivers.
Use of a radar detector is prohibited in Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, Maritimes, and all Territories. This makes Beltronics STi Driver the no.1 choice for drivers who live in these provinces or plan to travel across Canada.
Like any other Beltronics radar detectors, the STi Driver gives you 3 sensitivity settings - Highway Mode for maximum range, AutoScan Mode and City No-X Mode for balanced performance and false signal rejection.
We recommend hardwiring the Bel STi Driver with a direct-wire cord or direct-wire SmartCord for cleaner and more concealed install.
The latest 2010 production model with firmware revision A6M9 includes Traffic Signal Rejection (TSR) setting that suppress annoying radar traffic drones that check highway traffic flow regularly. It also includes audio ramp-up update which makes the STi Driver much more responsive to change in strength of radar signals.
This is no doubt the best overall windshield mounted radar detector in Canada.

If you have been using a radar detector, you are already aware of the false alerts coming from automatic doors from shops, banks, and supermarkets. Beltronics' new GPS radar detector - GX 65 - is finally capable of locking out these false alerts!
The patented True-Lock technology locks out false alerts, making your driving experience much quieter. The Bel GX 65 also includes a camera database, which gives advanced warning to red-light cameras and speed cameras throughout North America.
Despite the fantastic GPS features on the Bel GX 65, this radar detector is not immune to Spectre 3 or Spectre 4 RDD.
With emerging red-light cameras in Calgary and Edmonton programmed to catch speeders "on-green", the GX 65 would be a great choice if you are looking for a quiet radar detector with good performance, which is also a GPS camera detector.
The GX 65 package includes standard accessories such as the windshield mount, coiled SmartCord, and the user manual. While the GPS True-Lock is a fantastic feature, we found that it does not perform as well as the Bel STi Driver in radar detection. If you plan to travel across Canada, we recommend the STi Driver over the Bel GX 65.

Escort Passport 9500ix is the improved version over its predecessor 9500i, the first GPS capable radar detector from Escort Radar. Passport 9500ix now adds USB updatable camera database as well as intelligent "Auto-Learn" on top of its existing "True-Lock" feature that locks out false alerts.
Many compare the Escort Passport 9500ix to Bel GX65 from its brother brand Beltronics. Aside from the "Auto-Learn" feature, 9500ix and GX65 share identical design based on the "M4" platform, offering the same radar performance and Defener camera database.
Like Beltronics GX65, the Passport 9500ix can be detected by OPP and Quebec Police's Spectre RDD radar-detector-detector. We can only recommend the 9500ix to those who plan to use it in BC, Alberta, and Saskatchewan only.
How does the Escort Passport 9500ix compare to Beltronics STi Driver? The only advantage 9500ix has over Bel STi is the GPS True-Lock and camera database. Bel STi uses more advanced dual-antenna M3 platform that offers better range and response on radar detection. In addition, STi Driver is undetectable, ideal for Ontario and Quebec.
The Passport 9500ix package includes the detector, windshield mount, coiled SmartCord, camera database serial number and KeyCode, and user manual.
